About the Mary Jane Lewis Scholarship Foundation

The Mary Jane Lewis Scholarship Foundation, named in honour of Dafydd Lewis’ second wife, is structured on a similar basis to the Dafydd Lewis Trust, however scholarships are limited to young women. The Foundation was created in 2004 by a group of passionate philanthropists to reflect the educational environment of today. Equity and merit-based scholarships are awarded after consideration of a combination of an applicant's academic performance, a means and asset test applied to the applicant and their parents, and an interview. There are no restrictions on the degree course that scholarship recipients can take.

Beneficiaries

The Mary Jane Lewis Scholarship Foundation provides scholarships to young women to attend the University of Melbourne. The Scholarship Trustees are firmly committed to expanding the reach of the scholarships and are continuing to look at helping schools identify eligible candidates. The ultimate aim of the Scholarship Trustees and those involved with the Mary Jane Lewis Scholarship Foundation is to broaden the reach of recipients to universities Australia wide.

Trust Achievements

Scholarship recipients of the Mary Jane Lewis Scholarship Foundation are provided with financial support to undertake full time studies at university. Currently scholarships are valued at $10,000 per year for a period of three years of the scholarship holder’s undergraduate degree.

In addition to financial support, the Mary Jane Lewis Scholarship Foundation offers personal and professional development opportunities.

The Foundation aims to raise one million dollars in capital by the end of 2010 in order to reach a greater number of young, disadvantaged Australians striving to reach their educational goals.
